Free Classes Launched in Garston to Combat Anti-Social Behaviour
In an effort to reduce anti-social behaviour in Garston, Liverpool, free boxing, dance, and drama classes are being launched. This initiative coincides with the implementation of a 72-hour dispersal zone by Merseyside Police, aimed at addressing rising criminal activity in the area.
The classes are funded through Community Renewal Funding in collaboration with Liverpool City Council and are targeted at local youth. Boxing sessions will be held at Strictly Boxing Gym on October 30 and 31, while dance and drama classes will take place at Topaz on Heald Street. These activities will continue every Friday evening for the next year.
Local councillor Sam Gorst highlighted the need for positive youth engagement, citing a rise in criminality in recent years. Paul Coshott from Strictly Boxing Gym emphasized that boxing teaches discipline and respect, aiming to provide constructive alternatives for young people. The dispersal order, which allows police to direct individuals suspected of causing trouble to leave the area, is part of broader efforts to enhance community safety.
