Funding Secured for Halton Castle Conservation Efforts

Funding has been obtained for safety and remedial work at Halton Castle, a medieval structure located in Runcorn, Cheshire, built by the Normans in 1071.

Halton Borough Council announced that the project aims to improve safety and security while allowing safe public access. The work will include cutting back undergrowth to reveal more features of the Grade I-listed castle.

The initiative follows a campaign by local residents and councillors to enhance the castle's visibility, which has been obscured by overgrown trees. The council is collaborating with heritage advisers and plans to appoint a specialist contractor for the work. Additionally, the Friends of Halton Castle group is seeking grants and local business support for ongoing maintenance and improvements.
