Gael Monfils Celebrates 40th Birthday with US Open Victory

Gael Monfils marked his 40th birthday by winning a match at the US Open, becoming the oldest man to achieve this milestone since 1992. Competing in his final major tournament, Monfils secured a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 victory against Paraguayan player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo.

The match took place at Louis Armstrong Stadium, where the crowd celebrated Monfils' birthday with a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' during his post-match interview. This victory also marked Monfils' 131st win in Grand Slam matches, extending his record for French players.

Despite a shaky start, Monfils regained his composure and dominated the subsequent sets. He expressed gratitude for the supportive atmosphere in New York and acknowledged a birthday gift from his wife, Elina Svitolina. Monfils is set to face American 14th seed Learner Tien in the next round.
