Ganges Grandmasters Claim Victory in Global Chess League Final
The Ganges Grandmasters emerged victorious in the fourth season of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League, defeating the Alpine APL Pipers in the final held in Bengaluru. This marked the Grandmasters' first championship title.
The final commenced with a 3-3 draw, leading to a decisive second match. Levon Aronian secured an early lead for the Grandmasters by defeating Anish Giri, but Volodar Murzin equalized for the Pipers. The remaining games ended in draws.
The pivotal moment came when Ian Nepomniachtchi faced Magnus Carlsen, turning the tide with a tactical move that led to Carlsen's resignation. Stavroula Tsolakidou clinched the match-winning point against Humpy Koneru, sealing a 4-2 victory for the Grandmasters. Tsolakidou was later named Player of the Tournament for her impressive performance throughout the league.
