Garrett Whitlock Activated from Injured List by Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have activated right-hander Garrett Whitlock from the 15-day injured list. This decision comes as the team prepares for a doubleheader against the New York Yankees, with Whitlock taking the roster spot of Wyatt Olds, who has been optioned to Triple-A Worcester.

Whitlock had been sidelined since August 9 due to elbow inflammation, marking his second stint on the injured list this season. He previously missed time in late May and early June because of left knee inflammation. Fortunately, the recent elbow issue was minor, allowing him to return in under three weeks.

This season, Whitlock has recorded a 2.05 ERA, a 29.2% strikeout rate, and a 4.2% walk rate over 44 innings. He ranks among the league leaders in barrel rate and chase rate, contributing to a Red Sox bullpen that has been highly effective. The team's strong performance, particularly from late June to early August, has propelled them into playoff contention.
