Gary Neville Predicts Apology Over Controversial Manchester Derby Goal

Gary Neville has stated that the VAR officials made a mistake in allowing Manchester City's goal during their 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. He expects that Pro Ref, the officiating body in English football, will issue an apology regarding the decision.

The goal by Erling Haaland was initially ruled offside before VAR intervened, determining that he was onside due to a play by Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu. However, Enzo Fernandez of Manchester City was in an offside position and his actions were deemed to have influenced United's Lisandro Martinez, which should have led to the goal being disallowed.

Neville emphasized that Fernandez's attempt to play the ball interfered with Martinez's defense, suggesting that the officiating body will recognize their error. Manchester United manager Michael Carrick expressed disbelief at the decision, while Martinez criticized the consistency of officiating in the league. Former players Micah Richards and Roy Keane also supported the view that Fernandez's actions constituted interference with play.
