Gasly Reflects on Strong Weekend Despite Seventh-Place Finish at Monza
Pierre Gasly finished seventh at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, a drop from his surprising pole position. Despite this, he considers the weekend to be Alpine's strongest of the season.
Gasly led early in the race but was overtaken by faster competitors from Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren, and Ferrari. He acknowledged that maintaining qualifying speed throughout the race was a challenge for Alpine.
Gasly noted that he was pleased with the overall performance, finishing just three seconds behind Lewis Hamilton and battling Lando Norris during the race. He described the A526 as the best car he has driven this season and recognized that the pole position was unexpected. Alpine will now assess how much of their performance was due to the car's capabilities versus the unique conditions at Monza.
