Geelong premiership defender Jake Kolodjashnij is currently facing uncertainty regarding his career due to a concussion waiver controversy. He was identified as the player involved in a 2024 agreement that relieved the club of future liabilities related to brain injuries after he experienced multiple head injuries throughout his career.

Following this revelation, Kolodjashnij signed a two-year contract extension that is set to expire at the end of the current season. Geelong's assistant coach Nathan Buckley noted that Kolodjashnij has been understandably unsettled by the situation, which has significantly altered his circumstances. Buckley mentioned that the club is providing substantial support to him as he navigates this challenging period.

In light of the situation, Geelong is expected to face a penalty greater than the $75,000 sanction imposed on Carlton earlier this year for a similar issue. The club is required to respond to the AFL's inquiry by the end of Tuesday, following a memo urging all teams to disclose any concussion-related agreements.
