George Lombard Jr. Makes MLB Debut for Yankees Against Cardinals

George Lombard Jr. has signed a major league contract and is set to make his MLB debut for the New York Yankees at home against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 21-year-old, who was the Yankees' first-round draft pick in 2023, will start at shortstop and bat eighth in the lineup. The Yankees also added outfielder Heliot Ramos to the active roster after acquiring him from the San Francisco Giants, and recalled right-hander Yerry de los Santos from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Lombard had a solid season at Triple-A, hitting .268 with six home runs and 21 RBIs over 56 games. His father, George Lombard Sr., played in the MLB and is currently the bench coach for the Detroit Tigers. The Yankees made roster adjustments by optioning outfielder Jasson Dominguez and right-handed reliever Angel Chivilli following a recent loss to St. Louis.
