Following a virtual safety car caused by Esteban Ocon's retirement, Russell was in second place, ahead of Antonelli, who had taken advantage of the situation to pit.

Despite being ahead, Russell requested the team to consider teamwork, believing Antonelli was out of contention. However, Antonelli quickly closed the gap, leading to the decision for Russell to yield. After the race, Russell expressed satisfaction with the outcome, acknowledging that Antonelli deserved to finish ahead due to his tire advantage.

Antonelli also commented on the race, noting the challenges he faced with car handling and the competition from Lando Norris. Team principal Toto Wolff explained that team orders are a necessary strategy to avoid losing time and points, emphasizing that the decision was in line with their pre-race agreements.
