George Russell Advised to Focus on 2027 After Spanish GP Setback
James Hinchcliffe, a former IndyCar driver and F1 analyst, has recommended that George Russell shift his focus to the 2027 season after his title chances were labeled a 'write-off' following the Spanish Grand Prix.
During the race at the Madrid circuit, Russell finished fifth, while his Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli secured his eighth career victory, widening his lead over Russell to 81 points in the standings. Although Russell acknowledged that he could still mathematically win the championship, he expressed that he is not realistically in contention.
Hinchcliffe emphasized that Russell should concentrate on improving his performance in the remaining races of the season, suggesting that he use this time to identify the factors holding him back from matching Antonelli's pace. He noted that the upcoming races could serve as valuable preparation for the 2027 season.
