George Russell Downplays Importance of F1 Championship Standings
George Russell has indicated that he does not consider finishing second in the Formula 1 drivers' championship to be important, especially as competitors Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Charles Leclerc are closing in after the United States Grand Prix.
In the race held at the Circuit of the Americas, Russell finished in eighth place, receiving a five-second penalty for gaining an advantage by leaving the track while competing against McLaren's Oscar Piastri. Following this race, only one point separates him from Hamilton, who is in third place, while Verstappen and Leclerc are positioned fourth and fifth, trailing Russell by six and nine points, respectively.
Russell emphasized that his primary focus is on the constructors' championship, stating that individual standings like P2 or P3 do not equate to being a champion. He reflected on his fluctuating mindset throughout the season, acknowledging both his performance issues and the bad luck he faced, but he remains committed to improving for future races.
