George Russell Highlights Ferrari's Turbo Advantage at Mexican GP
At the upcoming Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix, Mercedes driver George Russell has pointed out that Ferrari's smaller diameter turbocharger could give them a significant advantage due to the unique challenges posed by the high-altitude circuit in Mexico City.
The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, located at 2250 meters, presents difficulties such as reduced aerodynamic performance and cooling issues. Russell explained that Ferrari's turbo design allows for quicker spool-up, which is beneficial in the thinner air, despite a trade-off in peak horsepower.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, however, has expressed skepticism about their status as favorites, citing recent strong performances from rivals like Red Bull and Mercedes. He emphasized the importance of executing a clean qualifying session to maximize their potential, as Ferrari has struggled to maintain pace during crucial moments in previous races.
