George Russell Leads Mercedes in Italian Grand Prix Practice
George Russell of Mercedes achieved the fastest lap during the second practice session at the Italian Grand Prix held at Monza, marking a strong performance ahead of the race.
Russell completed the lap in one minute and 22.559 seconds, finishing 0.120 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who clocked a time of 1:23.008 in the first session. Leclerc's teammate, Lewis Hamilton, was third in the first practice but finished fifth in the second session.
In the second practice, McLaren's Lando Norris placed fourth, while his teammate Oscar Piastri secured sixth. Russell's performance is crucial as he aims to close a 59-point gap to his championship-leading teammate Kimi Antonelli, who will start from the back of the grid due to engine penalties.
