George Russell Tops Practice Session at Singapore Grand Prix
In the sole practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix, George Russell of Mercedes recorded the fastest lap, followed closely by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who was 0.198 seconds behind.
McLaren's Lando Norris secured the third position, 0.273 seconds off Russell's time, while Lewis Hamilton from Ferrari finished fourth, 0.499 seconds slower. The top five was rounded out by McLaren's Oscar Piastri, all utilizing soft-compound tyres. Red Bull's Max Verstappen was the quickest on medium tyres, placing sixth, 0.732 seconds behind Russell.
Despite his strong performance in practice, Russell will start from the back of the grid in the race due to a penalty for exceeding engine part limits. This follows an engine failure during the Bahrain Grand Prix. The session took place amid air-quality warnings in Singapore due to haze from wildfires, prompting advisories for residents to limit outdoor activities.
