George Russell's Future at Mercedes Uncertain After US Grand Prix
George Russell's future with Mercedes in Formula 1 has come into question after the recent United States Grand Prix. Russell, who began the 2026 season as a title contender, has seen his teammate Kimi Antonelli rise to the top of the championship standings.
Following his victory in Austin, Antonelli leads with 365 points, while Russell is in second place with 242 points. Although Antonelli missed the chance to secure the championship at this race, he has another opportunity at the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix.
James Hinchcliffe, a former IndyCar driver, discussed Russell's situation on the F1 Nation podcast, suggesting that Russell might contemplate his options outside of Mercedes. He noted that Russell's contract negotiations had previously sparked discussions about his future, indicating that relationships with other teams may have already been established.
