German Inflation Rises in August Amid Energy Price Increases
In August, German inflation rose to 2.9% year-on-year, up from 2.8% in July, primarily due to increased energy prices influenced by the ongoing conflict in Iran. This rise was lower than the 3.1% forecasted by analysts.
Energy inflation surged to 10.5% in August, compared to 8.3% the previous month. Despite the increase, core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, remained steady at 2.4%. The German government anticipates inflation to reach 2.7% this year and 2.8% in 2027.
As the European Central Bank prepares for a potential interest rate hike in September, analysts note that the current inflation levels may not decrease soon. Services inflation slightly declined to 2.8%, and experts predict that headline inflation could exceed 3% again in the fall, influenced by various factors including energy and food prices.
