Gianni Infantino to Seek Re-Election as FIFA President in March

Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA since 2016, will stand for re-election in March, as confirmed by the football governing body.

His announcement comes amid scrutiny following the cancellation of a plan to sell stakes in FIFA competitions to private investors, which led to significant backlash, including threats from UEFA to boycott FIFA events. Infantino previously indicated his intention to seek re-election in 2027.

This marks the first official confirmation from FIFA regarding his candidacy for a fourth term since the recent controversies began. FIFA has accused UEFA of conducting a smear campaign against its leadership, while UEFA has filed legal documents in the US seeking evidence related to Infantino's plans. Although no challengers have been officially named, Concacaf president Victor Montagliani is viewed as a potential candidate. Nominations for the election must be submitted by November 18.
