Giants Acquire Buddy Kennedy from Mariners
The San Francisco Giants have claimed infielder Buddy Kennedy off waivers from the Seattle Mariners, as confirmed by announcements from both teams. Kennedy was designated for assignment by Seattle last week.
To make room for Kennedy on the 40-man roster, the Giants transferred left-hander Matt Gage to the 60-day injured list. Kennedy, who is 27 years old, previously joined the Giants organization in December under a minor league deal. He had a brief stint with the Giants earlier this season, making only eight plate appearances before being designated for assignment and subsequently traded to Seattle for cash considerations, where he had 11 plate appearances.
Throughout this season, Kennedy has struggled offensively in the majors, posting a batting line of .059/.158/.118. His performance aligns with his overall career statistics, as he has a .167/.260/.259 batting average in 200 plate appearances since debuting with the Diamondbacks in 2022. Despite his challenges in the majors, Kennedy has excelled at Triple-A this year, achieving a .321/.424/.543 batting line over 218 plate appearances.
