Giants Call Up Seth Lonsway for Major League Debut

The San Francisco Giants have selected left-handed pitcher Seth Lonsway for his Major League debut as part of three roster moves announced before a doubleheader against the Diamondbacks.

Alongside Lonsway's selection, the Giants called up Matt Wilkinson from Triple-A Sacramento to start Game 1 and optioned right-hander Spencer Bivens to Sacramento. Lonsway, who was drafted in the sixth round by the Giants in 2021 from Ohio State, has a notable groundball rate of 57.7% over 75 2/3 innings this season across Double-A and Triple-A.

While Lonsway's primary pitch is a 90.4mph sinker, he also utilizes a cutter, changeup, and slider. His performance in Triple-A has resulted in a 5.37 ERA over 114 innings, but he has shown better control and a 3.02 ERA in Double-A. The Giants may consider using him as a starter or in long relief, depending on his performance during this call-up.
