Giants' Daniel Susac Out with Patellar Fracture

The San Francisco Giants have announced that rookie catcher Daniel Susac has sustained a fractured patella in his left knee. He is scheduled to meet with doctors to discuss a treatment plan.

As a result of this injury, Susac will be placed on the 10-day injured list. The Giants are in need of a new catcher to support Drew Cavanaugh, especially since Jesus Rodriguez is already on the injured list due to elbow neuritis. The team has a vacancy on the 40-man roster, allowing for Susac's placement without additional moves.

The Giants are expected to make several roster adjustments to fill the backup catcher position. Currently, no other catchers in the organization have major league experience. They plan to use Cavanaugh as the starting catcher while looking for a more experienced backup. Options being considered include former Giant Chadwick Tromp and Willie MacIver, who was recently designated for assignment by Toronto. In the meantime, they may call up a catcher from Triple-A Sacramento, with Zach Morgan and Adrián Sugastey as potential candidates.
