Giants Designate Infielder Buddy Kennedy for Assignment

The San Francisco Giants have designated infielder Buddy Kennedy for assignment as they reinstated first baseman Bryce Eldridge from the bereavement list.

Kennedy, 27, began the season with the Giants on a minor league contract and was added to the major league roster in June. After a brief stint, he was designated for assignment, traded to the Mariners for cash, and then reclaimed by the Giants in early August. This decision comes amid ongoing injuries to several infielders, including Matt Chapman and Willy Adames.

Despite his minor league success, where he has a strong batting average, Kennedy has struggled in the majors, posting a .165 batting average over 230 plate appearances across five seasons. With the trade deadline passed, he will be placed on waivers, and if he clears, he can opt for free agency due to his previous outright status.
