Giants May Shut Down Logan Webb for Season

The San Francisco Giants are contemplating the possibility of shutting down pitcher Logan Webb for the remainder of the season following a series of inconsistent performances. Manager Tony Vitello indicated that discussions about this decision are ongoing, with Webb expected to have a conversation with him before a final decision is made.

Webb, who has been the team's ace for nearly six years, has struggled recently, culminating in a performance where he allowed six earned runs in five innings against the Padres. This latest outing has raised his ERA to 4.31, marking the highest full-season ERA of his career. Despite a strong showing earlier in the season, including an All-Star selection, his recent form has led to speculation about his readiness to continue pitching.

Having previously missed three weeks due to right knee bursitis, Webb has otherwise been durable, starting 185 games since 2021. Although he has thrown 160 2/3 innings this season, the Giants, who are out of postseason contention, may opt to rest him to ensure he returns fully prepared for the next season. The team recently took similar measures with another player, Rafael Devers, who was placed on the injured list.
