Giants Promote Zach Morgan to Major League Roster

The San Francisco Giants have added catcher Zach Morgan to their major league roster for the game against Houston, following the injury of rookie catcher Daniel Susac, who will be placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left patella fracture.

This marks the first major league call-up for Morgan, who was drafted in the seventh round by the Giants in 2022 from Fresno State. Although he has not garnered significant attention as a prospect, he has been considered reliable organizational depth. In his minor league career, Morgan has a batting line of .237/.337/.349 with an 18% strikeout rate over more than 1,000 plate appearances.

This season, Morgan has performed better, posting a .269/.369/.370 line with two home runs in 131 at-bats across the top two minor league levels. He has also thrown out two of 16 attempted base stealers in Triple-A. While he will serve as a backup to Drew Cavanaugh for the time being, reports indicate that the Giants are seeking a more experienced backup catcher for the remainder of the season.
