Giants Receivers Choose Nostalgic Numbers
Jalin Hyatt and Malachi Fields, both receivers for the New York Giants, have chosen jersey numbers that resonate with the team's history. Hyatt has given up No. 13 to Odell Beckham Jr. and will now wear No. 81, a number previously associated with Amani Toomer, who played for the Giants from 1996 to 2008.
Malachi Fields has transitioned from No. 0 to No. 88, a number that brings to mind Hakeem Nicks, a first-round draft pick in 2009 who was part of the Giants' Super Bowl XLVI championship team. Nicks had a notable performance in that game, recording 10 receptions for 109 yards.
The tradition of jersey numbers for receivers has evolved over the years, with numbers 80 to 89 being common before 2004, when numbers 10 through 19 were introduced. Currently, players can also opt for single-digit numbers.
