Giants Remove Three Players from 40-Man Roster
The San Francisco Giants have made roster changes by outrighting left-hander Matt Gage, right-hander Jason Foley, and infielder Osleivis Basabe from their 40-man roster. This announcement was made by the team on October 29, 2026.
Gage and Foley, both veteran relievers, faced injury challenges this season. Gage pitched only 27 1/3 innings due to elbow issues, finishing with a 5.60 ERA. He had previously shown promise with a 2.66 ERA over parts of three seasons. Foley, recovering from shoulder surgery, debuted mid-season and recorded a 4.15 ERA in 26 innings, but his strikeout and walk rates were below his career averages.
Basabe, a 26-year-old infielder, had a brief stint in the majors this year, hitting .202 in 143 plate appearances. He had previously played for the Rays but struggled to produce at the major league level. All three players are set to become minor league free agents as they seek new opportunities this winter.
