Giants Scout Japanese Pitchers Ahead of MLB Offseason
The San Francisco Giants are actively scouting Japanese pitchers Hiromi Itoh and Kaima Taira, as reported by Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Both right-handers are anticipated to be posted for Major League Baseball teams this offseason, although a potential lockout could disrupt their 45-day posting window, which may begin in early November.
At least 15 MLB teams are reportedly interested in Taira, while Itoh is also attracting significant attention. The Giants, who are in need of pitching rotation support, could benefit from either player. Taira, despite lacking extensive experience as a starter, might be adapted to a relief role if necessary. However, the Giants have struggled in recent years to successfully acquire Japanese talent, with notable players like Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki signing with the rival Dodgers.
