Giants Send Andrew Knizner to Triple-A Sacramento
The San Francisco Giants have announced that catcher Andrew Knizner has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento. Following this move, he has the option to elect free agency, which he is expected to do.
This decision comes as the Giants work on their roster for the offseason, needing to make adjustments as players on the injured list return. Recently, they have also lost Grant McCray and Braxton Roxby through waivers and have outrighted several other players.
Knizner joined the Giants in August due to injuries to other catchers and shared catching responsibilities with Drew Cavanaugh. Over the course of 29 games, he recorded a batting average of .219 with a .288 on-base percentage. With his service time now between five and six years, he could have been retained through arbitration, but the Giants opted to move forward without him, potentially opening up opportunities for other catchers on the roster.
