Giants' Willy Adames Faces Recovery Challenge After Injury

Willy Adames, the shortstop for the San Francisco Giants, has been diagnosed with a torn UCL in his non-throwing elbow. Instead of opting for surgery, he received a platelet-rich plasma injection and will follow a rest-and-rehab plan, as reported by Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Adames' rehabilitation is projected to take 3-4 weeks, raising doubts about his ability to return this season. Even if he is cleared for baseball activities sooner, the minor league season ends on September 20, leaving little time for a rehab assignment. Adames expressed uncertainty about his return, emphasizing the need to be fully healthy before playing.

In addition to Adames, Marcelo Mayer, a recent acquisition, has not yet debuted with the Giants due to a stress reaction in his forearm and a recent bone bruise in his foot. Giants manager Tony Vitello indicated that Mayer is expected to resume baseball activities soon. The team is also looking to strengthen its bullpen, which has struggled this season, particularly in closing games, with 21 blown saves compared to 25 saves.
