Glamorgan Seeks New Head Coach After Dawson Joins England
Glamorgan is searching for a new head coach after Richard Dawson left the club to take on the role of assistant coach for the England Test team. Dawson, who previously coached Gloucestershire for six years, joined Glamorgan in December 2024 on short notice and signed a three-year contract extension in 2025.
During his tenure, Dawson led Glamorgan to promotion from Division Two of the County Championship in his first season and achieved a sixth-place finish this year, marking the first time the club has maintained its position in Division One for consecutive seasons. Glamorgan's director of cricket, Mark Wallace, acknowledged Dawson's coaching abilities and expressed understanding of his decision to accept the England position.
Despite the disappointment of losing Dawson, Glamorgan's chief executive, Dan Cherry, highlighted the progress made under his leadership. Dawson leaves the club with a strong reputation, having improved the team's performance and structures. The club now faces the challenge of finding a suitable replacement before the new year, with several internal and external candidates potentially interested in the position.
