GM Sipke Ernst Revamps the Benko Gambit in New Chess Course
Grandmaster Sipke Ernst has released a new ChessBase course titled The Modern Benko Gambit, which aims to enhance the reputation of the Benko Gambit in contemporary chess. The course, running for about three hours, showcases how the gambit can be effectively utilized in the current computer-driven era.
Ernst's approach encourages Black to engage in sharp, dynamic play from the outset, countering the theoretical challenges posed by White's 12.a4 line. The course provides comprehensive systems against various Queen's Pawn openings, including the London System and the Trompowsky Attack, giving players a complete repertoire against 1.d4.
In addition to video content, the course features interactive learning tools, allowing users to practice and analyze positions using the Fritz Online web app. Ernst's modernized strategy, particularly the move 5...e6, is designed for players looking to apply pressure on White right from the beginning.
