Granit Xhaka Reinstated as Switzerland Captain After COVID-19 Document Controversy
Granit Xhaka has been reinstated as the captain of the Switzerland national soccer team following a four-game absence due to his admission of using fake vaccination certificates during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alongside Xhaka, Breel Embolo, who faced similar allegations in September, is also eligible for selection for two Nations League matches next month, as confirmed by the Swiss soccer federation.
Switzerland's coach, Murat Yakin, expressed satisfaction in being able to select players without restrictions for the upcoming games. Xhaka, who has been on probation for two years since receiving a fake vaccine document in 2022, has a national team record of 152 caps and is set to play against Slovenia on November 13 and Scotland three days later.
