Grass Fire Near Huyton School Sparks Urgent Firefighter Warning

A grass fire that rapidly expanded and nearly reached Hope Primary School in Huyton prompted a warning from firefighters. The incident occurred on August 2, when the fire quadrupled in size within just 20 minutes, coming dangerously close to the school's fence.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service reported that they have responded to 945 grass and rubbish fires since June 1, with over half being deliberately set. Fire officials are urging the public to refrain from starting fires and to be cautious with cigarette disposal, especially in the current hot and dry conditions.

Kevin Johnson, head of prevention for MFRS, highlighted the potential dangers of such fires, which can threaten homes, wildlife, and public safety. He emphasized the importance of responsible behavior, including not lighting fires in open spaces and ensuring barbecues are monitored and kept away from flammable areas.
