Great Britain & Ireland Defeats U.S. to Win Walker Cup

Great Britain & Ireland triumphed over the United States in the Walker Cup, winning 13 1/2 to 12 1/2 at Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland on Sunday.

Josh Hill played a crucial role by hitting a bunker shot to 3 feet and birdieing the 18th hole, defeating Tyler Watts 1 up to clinch the victory. This win marked GB&I's first cup victory since 2015 and ended the U.S.'s five-match winning streak.

After leading by one point following Saturday's matches, GB&I faced a setback as the U.S. surged ahead 9 1/2-6 1/2 by winning all four morning matches on Sunday. However, GB&I rebounded in the afternoon singles matches, with notable wins from Stuart Grehan, Luke Poulter, and Jack Whaley, who won decisively against their opponents.
