Guardians Sign Ryan Borucki to Minor League Contract

The Guardians have signed veteran left-handed reliever Ryan Borucki to a minor league contract following his release from the Giants in early June. Borucki has not pitched in a game for a couple of months and is expected to join a lower-level affiliate for preparation before moving to the Triple-A team.

At 32 years old, Borucki has spent parts of nine seasons in Major League Baseball, achieving seven years of service earlier this season with San Francisco. He recorded a 4.94 ERA over 23 2/3 innings with the Giants before being designated for assignment. His most successful season was with the Pirates in 2023, where he posted a 2.45 ERA in 40 1/3 innings.

Currently, the Guardians' bullpen includes three left-handed pitchers: Tim Herrin, Erik Sabrowski, and Will Dion. While Herrin and Sabrowski have mid-3.00 ERAs, their metrics indicate potential issues. Dion has a 4.58 ERA but has shown strong strikeout and walk rates. Borucki adds depth to the bullpen, but due to his recent inactivity, he may not be an immediate option for the major league team.
