Guardians to Promote Carlos Hernández to Major League Roster

The Guardians are preparing to promote right-handed pitcher Carlos Hernández to their major league roster, as reported by Guardians Prospective and El Extrabase. This announcement comes as the team has an opening on their 40-man roster after designating Gabriel Arias for assignment earlier in August.

Hernández, who is 29 years old, has been with the Guardians on a minor league contract and spent the first half of the season recovering from injuries sustained in a serious car accident in January. He returned to play in July and has made 12 appearances in Triple-A, allowing eight runs over 13 1/3 innings while striking out 20 batters.

With a fastball averaging 96.4 mph, Hernández will join the middle relief group under Stephen Vogt. He is out of options, meaning he must stay on the major league roster or be placed on waivers. Additionally, utility player Daniel Schneemann will be recalled from Triple-A Columbus to fill another roster spot as part of the September expansion.
