Gulveer Singh Makes History with Commonwealth Games 5000m Medal

Gulveer Singh has created history by becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men's 5000m. This achievement also makes him the first Indian track and field athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the Games.

Singh won the bronze medal in the 5000m with a time of 13:24.95. Kenya's Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang took the gold in 13:23.61, and Australia's Ky Robinson claimed the silver in 13:24.70. Singh had earlier won a silver medal in the 10,000m on July 28.

Gulveer Singh stayed with the leading group throughout the race and made his move in the final lap, edging Kenya's Cornelius Kemboi to the bronze medal by just 0.04 seconds. This bronze medal adds to Singh's growing list of achievements, including the 10,000m bronze medal he won at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
