Hal Steinbrenner Discusses Apollo's Stake in Yankees and Future Ownership
Apollo Global Management has acquired a 16 percent stake in the New York Yankees for $2.6 billion, as confirmed by team owner Hal Steinbrenner. During a press conference, Steinbrenner emphasized that this deal will not result in the full sale of the franchise.
Steinbrenner stated that the investment aims to provide long-term financial stability for the team, ensuring its future even as leadership transitions to the next generation. He clarified that Apollo's role as a limited partner does not grant them control over daily operations, maintaining the existing management structure.
In addition, Apollo Sports Capital CEO Al Tylis will join the Yankee Global Enterprise board, but Steinbrenner reiterated that this does not equate to operational control. The deal aligns with recent changes allowing private equity groups to increase their ownership stakes in Major League Baseball teams.
