Halewood Playground Reopens After Vandalism Repairs
A playground in Halewood, Merseyside, has officially reopened after undergoing repairs due to vandalism that occurred shortly before its planned opening.
The park, located in Finch Woods, was defaced with graffiti, and its equipment, trees, and safety surfacing were damaged over the weekend of August 8 and 9. Knowsley Council leader Graham Morgan expressed his satisfaction at the reopening, emphasizing the hard work of council staff and contractors to restore the site for local children.
The incident, which Morgan condemned as mindless vandalism, resulted in repair costs estimated in the thousands. He noted that the matter has been reported to Merseyside Police, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify those responsible. The playground features separate areas for juniors and toddlers, connected by a sensory path.
