
Harry Kane Becomes First Englishman to Win German Footballer of the Year
Harry Kane has been awarded the title of Germany's footballer of the year for 2026, making history as the first Englishman to achieve this recognition.
The Bayern Munich striker had an impressive season, scoring 61 goals across all competitions, contributing to his team's league and cup double and a semi-final appearance in the Champions League.
Kane secured 272 votes from the German sports journalists association, surpassing his Bayern teammate Michael Olise, who received 203 votes. Bayern's sporting director praised Kane's exceptional performance, highlighting his previous accolades, including being named England's Footballer of the Year.
In addition to Kane's achievement, Bayern's coach Vincent Kompany was recognized as coach of the year, and Giulia Gwinn was awarded best female player. Kane and Kompany will be celebrated during Bayern's Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart.
Recently, Kane also received the 2026 Golden Shoe for being the top scorer in Europe's top leagues last season.
