Head Teacher Evacuates 900 Students Before Nepal Floods Strike

Rajendra Dawadi, the headteacher of Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School in Nuwakot, successfully evacuated 900 students shortly before severe floods struck the region. He received multiple warnings about the impending disaster at 09:10 local time and acted swiftly to direct students to higher ground.

Dawadi ordered buses to turn around and urged students to flee the area. The floods, which have resulted in at least 794 fatalities, quickly engulfed the school and surrounding areas. A hostel located just 100 meters from the river was immediately affected by the rising waters.

Many students initially underestimated the seriousness of the situation. Pupil Yunisha Amatya recounted her narrow escape, managing to reach safety just seconds before the flood hit. After the disaster, students and teachers moved to a nearby village for safety, but many were stranded for two nights due to disrupted transport. Dawadi emphasized the need for improved warning systems to enhance future responses to such emergencies.
