Hendrick Motorsports Discusses Future Plans for Corey Day Amid Connor Zilisch's Hiring
Hendrick Motorsports recently announced Connor Zilisch as the driver for the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet starting in 2028, but the team remains focused on the development of Corey Day. During a press conference, Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordon emphasized that Day, a 20-year-old driver in his first full-time pavement season, is still a key part of their future plans.
Day has achieved two wins in the O’Reilly Series and currently ranks fifth in the championship standings with one race left in the regular season. Hendrick Motorsports is fully funding his development program, highlighting their long-term commitment to him. Hendrick noted that Day has only been racing on pavement for about six months and expressed confidence in his growth.
Hendrick indicated that the team intends for Day to gain experience at the second-tier level before considering his advancement. The organization is also open to exploring partnerships with other Chevrolet teams in the future. Gordon remarked on Day's potential, while also affirming Zilisch's readiness to compete at a championship level in 2028.
