Highlights from the Grand Slam of Curling Season Opener
The Grand Slam of Curling season commenced with the Co-op Invitational in Victoria, where Kerri Einarson's team from Canada and Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller emerged as champions.
This event marked the debut of several new teams and introduced a reduced thinking time for players, alongside a new sweeping technique gaining traction in women's curling. Notably, several top-ranked teams, including U.S. Team Danny Casper and Scotland's Team Bruce Mouat, failed to reach the playoffs, indicating a more competitive field.
Yannick Schwaller's team is being considered a potential favorite for the 2030 Olympics, having already achieved significant success this season. Meanwhile, Xenia Schwaller's team also showed promise by reaching the semifinals. Team Brad Jacobs, despite a lack of competitive play prior to the event, performed well, finishing with a 4-0 record in the round-robin before losing in the semifinals. The next event on the Grand Slam tour is the GSOC Masters, scheduled for November 3-8 in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
