Hockey India President Questions Jersey Change Process

Dilip Tirkey, the President of Hockey India, has expressed concerns regarding the recent change of the Indian hockey team's jersey from its traditional blue to saffron. This issue has escalated into a governance dispute within the organization.

In a letter addressed to the federation's director general, Cdr RK Srivastava, Tirkey questioned the authority and transparency of the decision-making process that led to the jersey redesign. He highlighted that he was only informed about the new jersey shortly before its public announcement on July 27, raising doubts about whether proper procedures were followed.

Tirkey emphasized the importance of governance in decisions affecting significant symbols of Indian hockey and requested a detailed response from the director general by a specified deadline. He also sought clarification on whether the potential impacts of the jersey change on athlete performance and preparation were adequately assessed prior to the announcement.
