Holloway Questions Makhachev's Two-Belt Display After UFC 330
Max Holloway expressed his skepticism regarding Islam Makhachev's decision to showcase two championship belts following UFC 330, noting that Makhachev no longer holds the lightweight title.
Makhachev successfully defended his welterweight title against Ian Machado Garry in Philadelphia last weekend, yet he celebrated with both his current welterweight belt and the vacated lightweight championship. The lightweight title was relinquished when Makhachev moved up in weight earlier this year.
On his Kick channel, Holloway questioned the necessity of displaying both belts, suggesting that Makhachev's status as a champion was now limited to one division. This practice of showcasing multiple belts is not unique to Makhachev, as Ilia Topuria also posed with two belts after his victory at UFC 317, despite having vacated his featherweight title. Makhachev's manager insists that he remains a champion at lightweight, even with the title being technically vacant.
