Honda Aims to Regain Competitiveness in F1 by 2028

Honda is working to re-establish itself as a leading power unit supplier in Formula 1, aiming for significant upgrades to its combustion engine by late 2027 or early 2028. Chief engineer Shintaro Orihara has acknowledged the challenges faced during the initial phase of the partnership with Aston Martin but remains optimistic about future developments.

The first upgrade, focused on the internal combustion engine, is set to debut at Zandvoort. Honda recognizes that multiple enhancements will be necessary to improve engine performance and close the gap with competitors. The company is also prioritizing better integration of its power unit with Aston Martin's chassis for the upcoming season.

Despite a difficult start, Honda draws confidence from its past successes in F1, where it achieved championships with Red Bull. Orihara has indicated that while immediate victories are not anticipated, the goal is to be competitive by the start of 2027, with a focus on reliability amid upcoming regulatory changes in fuel flow rates.
