Honda Announces Diogo Moreira for Factory MotoGP Team in 2027
Honda has officially announced that Diogo Moreira will join its factory MotoGP team for the upcoming season, partnering with Fabio Quartararo. This decision comes as David Alonso, who was previously set for a promotion to the premier class, will instead join LCR, Honda's satellite team.
Moreira, the reigning Moto2 world champion, has shown consistent performance in his debut MotoGP season, currently ranking 15th overall with 74 points. He has achieved five top-10 finishes, including notable results of sixth in Hungary and second in the Motegi sprint. He is expected to work with crew chief Andres Madrid, who is transitioning from KTM.
In contrast, Alonso, who dominated Moto3 in 2024, has struggled in Moto2, currently sitting fifth in the standings. Despite his past successes, Honda faced pressure from Alonso's management to place him in the factory team, a move that some within Honda believed would be too demanding for a rookie.
