Honda's F1 Project Distinct from Red Bull Era, Says Chief Engineer
Honda's chief engineer Shintaro Orihara has outlined the distinct philosophy of the company's Formula 1 project, emphasizing the continuous rotation of staff between road car initiatives and F1. This approach aims to enhance overall knowledge within the company.
During the FIA team principals' press conference in Melbourne, Adrian Newey noted Honda's ongoing battery issues and mentioned that Aston Martin's leadership only realized in November 2025 that Honda's F1 team had undergone significant changes since its successful collaboration with Red Bull.
Following its exit from F1 in 2021, Honda restructured its team with new personnel, which initially led to a lack of specific F1 experience. Orihara acknowledged that while the team had high-level skills, they needed to adapt to the unique demands of F1. To address this, Honda has reintegrated some experienced staff from the Red Bull era and is optimistic about future developments, aiming to enhance power unit performance by late 2027 or early 2028.
