Horse Racing and Other Sports Adjust to Solar Eclipse Disruption
The horse racing event at Ffos Las in South Wales is set to commence approximately two hours earlier today in response to the solar eclipse. This significant astronomical event is expected to begin shortly after 18:00 BST, marking the most notable solar eclipse visible from the UK since 1999.
The British Horseracing Authority has rescheduled the first race from 17:40 BST to 15:35. Meanwhile, other sporting events, including four Hundred cricket matches, will utilize floodlights throughout their duration to accommodate the eclipse.
Officials at Kempton racecourse, which has races planned for 19:00 and 19:30, confirmed that there would be no disruptions as all races are scheduled to take place under floodlights. The last major solar eclipse in 1999 led to the postponement of a League Cup football match due to safety concerns from increased tourist traffic.
