Houshmand Triumphs Over Medina at Fiji Pro, Brooks Wins by Default
Cole Houshmand and Erin Brooks achieved significant victories at the Fiji Pro held at Cloudbreak, boosting their rankings in the Championship Tour. Houshmand's win marked his third career victory, while Brooks secured her second consecutive win after her opponent Isabella Nichols withdrew due to injury.
During the men's final, Gabriel Medina scored a perfect ten but could not surpass Houshmand, who had already established a strong lead with an 8.5 and an 8.37. Houshmand's performance demonstrated his growth in the sport, as he managed to hold off Medina's late challenge despite the latter's impressive score.
Brooks, who had previously struggled this season, moved up to eighth overall after her victories at Teahupo’o and Cloudbreak. Nichols, who suffered a high ankle sprain, expressed her support for Brooks, acknowledging the mental strength required to succeed under pressure. The Championship Tour will continue with the Trestles Pro starting on September 11.
